TRALEE'S Stephen McCarthy has signed for Quinnipiac University for the 2010 season. The former Cork City and Shelbourne trainee makes the move to one of the top rated college soccer sides in the United States.
The Division One outfit were long in pursuit of the Irish underage international, making a number of visits to Ireland to meet with the Kerry man, beating off competition from Penn State University to sign him on a scholarship.
"Stephen is a big strong forward who is very effective at holding the ball and allowing the play to go through him," Bobcats boss Eric Da Costa stated.
"His strengths will most definitely add a new dynamic to our offense that has been lacking a strong target player. I'm excited about Stephen's addition and look forward to getting him involved this summer," he noted.
The Kerry star spoke of his delight at signing for the Connecticut college. "I am delighted and honored at the prospect of joining Quinnipiac University," McCarthy said.
"I am looking forward to a great season with the Bobcats in our challenge to win the divisional title and make the play-offs."
