Schoolboy soccer season begins for 2,500
Wednesday September 01 2010
LAST season's trophies are put away in the cabinets, the victories have been celebrated, the defeats forgotten and the medals displayed in their cases. Last season's Kerry Schoolboys/ leagues are now history.
For the record the following clubs picked up league titles – Killarney Celtic, Fenit, Mastergeeha, Listowel Celtic, Dingle Bay Rovers, Ballyhar, Park and Castleisland.
Now, however, the 2,500 plus young soccer players in the county are eager to get back on the fields and again kick-off the beautiful game.
The Girls and Super Sevens sections will begin in the coming weeks but this Saturday sees the Boys kick off with the even ages first up.
The following week, September 11, sees the uneven ages start their League campaigns.
These dates have been picked to coincide with the other Leagues in Munster in order to have agreed National Cup days. The final decision on how the National Cup will be structured will be decided at an SFAI Rules Committee meeting this week.
Back to the League and Mary Lyne has been reappointed as Fixture's Secretary. Mary takes over from Colm Dunlea and is presently drawing up a six month fixture list.
This will be released to the clubs in due course but clubs must be aware that if they do not have their affiliation fees paid by September 11 then they will not receive any more fixtures and teams will be sanctioned for giving walkovers.
The Schoolboys League would also like to welcome Behy Rovers into the League with the Glenbeigh side having entered a team in the Under 11 League.
The League also thank to its sponsors – O'Neill's, Moriarty's Centra Farranfore, JK Sports Listowel, O'Callaghan's Coaches, Killarney Plaza and Dante's Tralee.
There are a number of changes to the League structure this season. All Premier Divisions will have six teams with the other divisions being made up from the rest of the teams.
With the numbers playing the game there will be Four Divisions at Under 11. Under 14 Division One will be made up of a North and South section with the top side in each playing off.
