Listowel off to a good start

THE North Kerry League in Division 1 and 2 kickedoff on Friday last where Listowel Emmets took on Desmonds and with both sides trying out some young players it was Emmets who finished the stronger in the end Emmets 4-9 Desmonds 19, a good start for this young Emmets side

Ballyduff travelled to Asdee on Saturday last and the pre-match favourites got off to a winning start to their North Kerry League Division 2 clash with an Asdee side who in fairness started well considering that they were very much understrength on the day.

The opening half saw Ballyduff set the pace of the game and even though the home side had their moments it was the visitors who deservidely led at the break by 0-9 to 0-4. Within five minuytes of the resumption Ballyduff had extended their lead further when Joe Bunyan scored a well worked goal and even at this early stage of the game it looked as if Ballyduff would pull away. However, Asdee's midfielder Noel Long kept his side's hopes very much alive when he cracked a bullet of a shot to the net five minutes later.

From here to the end Ballyduff kept their noses in front with Joe Bunyan, Barry O'Grady and Tomas O'Rourke very much to the fore and when John Ross (Ballyduff) who had to deputise for the non appearance of the appointed Match Referee blew for full-time there was never a doubt but that Ballyduff were very deserving winners. For Asdee Paul O'Carroll, Brian Coughlan, Eoin O'Carroll, and Padraig Ruddle impressed.
