Lisselton can avenge league defeat in Cup final
THE first final of the season takes place at Mounthawk Park this Sunday when Lisselton Rovers and Killarney Celtic meet in the Kerry Final of the Munster Junior Cup. This is a decider that will create a lot of interest between two sides that are going very well this year.
Killarney Celtic defeated Lisselton early in the season in the league but things have changed since for the North Kerry side and they are now Premier A leaders with Castleisland and are red hot favourites to win back-toback titles this year.
However, Celtic are also going very well this season and are in fourth position just six points behind Lisselton with a game in hand.
Under new manager David Jacob's the Celtic side is gelling very well together with a good mix very talented young players and experienced campaigners such as Brian Spillane and John Doyle.
If they are to defeat Lisselton they will be looking for Brian Spillane, Alan Nagle and Terence Moriarty to contain the Lisselton strikers, John Doyle, John Payne and Gary Keane to marshal midfield and Stephen Hayes to create openings up front.
Of course, Lisselton is a team of stars and they will be very difficult to beat as they have an extremely strong panel of players. With the North Kerry side out of the FAI Junior Cup they will be very anxious to remain in the Munster Junior Cup.
Lisselton will be relying on Shane Brosnan Kenny Ward and Stephen Conway to excel at the back, Chris Wallace, Kyrle Holland, Joe Sheehy and Shane Doolan to make their presence felt at midfield and Mousserine to give Celtic a torrid time up front.
It promises to be a fascinating game and on paper Lisselton's strength in depth should be too much for Celtic but in a final anything can happen.
Lisselton are playing Limerick City in a warm up game for the final this Thursday night which seems a very risky exercise just two days before the big showdown.
