IF it was goals you were looking for then Cahermoneen was the place to be last Saturday with Tralee Dynamos and Limerick FC serving up a hugely entertaining nine goal thriller in a fiercely contested League of Ireland Under 20 game that hung on a knife edge to the very end.

It was a game packed with great spells of football, goalmouth drama debatable decisions making it a cocktail of football that captivated the good crowd that turned out to watch it. Limerick were a very large and powerful side that had their own Rory Delap in Darren O'Neill who could throw the ball 50 metres every time.

Consequently Limerick who had a strong breeze behind them tried to use route one at every given opportunity, which was putting the Dynamos defence under a lot of pressure. Their persistence paid off after a quarter of an hour when a huge throw in by Darren O'Neill broke loose in the Dynamos box and Brian Mc Gorrien pounced on the loose ball and rifled it home from close range.

Their lead only lasted five minutes when Paudie Quinn latched onto a defensive clearance and put Bryan Murphy through and just as he entered the box he was taken down by the advancing Limerick goalie Stephen McMahon and referee Kevin O'Regan pointed to the penalty spot. Quinn gave the Limerick goalie no chance with a great spot kick.

Three minutes later Dynamos keeper Paul White gave away a needless penalty with a foul on Kevin Barry when he should have got the ball in the first place. Barry made him pay the price with a superb finish to put his side ahead again. However, three minutes later the sides were all square again with the goal of the game.

The move began with Jeffrey Roche getting the ball in his own half and finding Jonathan Hannifan at the half way. He found Paudie Quinn in space down the wing and after showing defenders a clean pair of heels he released Bryan Murphy free into the box and he finished to the net in style.

Just before half-time Dynamos forged ahead with Sean O'Reilly and Aaron Houlihan combining with the latter giving Paudie Quinn a run at goals. He used his speed and strength to get past the centre-half and then he showed great composure and finished the ball to the net.

Dynamos were in a good position at half-time as they would have the strong breeze behind them in the second half. However, their chances took a serious set back early in the second half when Sean O'Reilly was sent off for a two footed tackle which was a very harsh decision as most present felt a yellow card would suffice.

Twelve minutes in parity was restored again when Kevin Barry took control of a cross from Michael Sheehan and on the turn gave Dynamos keeper Paul While no chance.

Unbelievably Dynamos wen t ahead again in th e 70th minute with a dazzling run by Paudie Quinn ( pictured)

left all defenders in his wake and he rolled the ball to Bryan Murphy who blasted the ball to the net.

Ten minutes later Limerick were level again when a Darren O Neill throw was flicked on to Kevin Barry and he completed his hat trick with a wonderful finish.

The concluding stage of the game was a nail biting affair. At th is stage it looked as if a share of the spoils would be the outcome, but their was a cruel twist of fate for Dynamos in the 89th minute when Richie Gray collected a Darren O'Neill throw and he floated the ball into the danger zone to the inrushing Kevin Barry who fond the net with a volley despite Dynamos keeper Paul While getting a hand to

it. On the run of play Dynamos deserved at least a draw.
