Controversial calls cost Camp an upset

DENNY PREMIER A Lisselton Rovers 4 Camp United 3 CAMP United are a side that can defeat any team on their day but they came into this game at Mounthawk Park on Friday last against Lisselton Rovers with depleted prospects as they had five players sidelined due to injury, including their ace striker Adrian O'Donnell who is overcoming an ankle operation.

However, they almost caused an upset and felt very hard done by in the second half when they conceded two goals in controversial circumstances.

The game was only fourminutes old when Lisselton went ahead when Stephen Conway's free kick found Mousserine Auro Akoriko unmarked in the small box and he headed home from fiveyards.

The signs looked very ominous for Camp and the floodgates were expected to open for Lisselton, but this did not transpire with the West Kerry side regaining their composure quickly. With Brendan O'Driscoll lording proceedings at midfield they took the game to the North Kerry side.

Still, Lisselton were extremely dangerous on the break with striker Mousserine allowed a lot of latitude and he was a constant threat to the Camp defence.

However, the Lisselton defence were looked suspect at set pieces and Camp tried to pick on this weakness. It paid dividends just before the half time break when a delightfully despatched free kick by Brendan O'Driscoll caused panic in the Lisselton goalmouth and Gearoid O'Shea took full advantage heading home.

The second half was only two minutes old when Camp took the lead with a superbly engineered goal. Gearoid O'Shea caught the Lisselton defence napping with a great through ball to James Scanlon whose first time shot was superbly blocked by Lisselton custodian Tony Lyons but Scanlon made no mistake with the rebound.

Lisselton brought on Joe Sheehy for Eoin O'Mahony and he had an immediate effect. Finding Mousserine on the wing he made ground to release Chris Wallace behind the Camp defence and he slid the ball home from close range.

Five minutes later Sheehy put Mousserine free down the left wing and despite calls for offside he cut in from the wing and squeezed the ball home from a tight angle.

Camp were incensed that the goal was allowed and further woe ensued two minutes later when Peter McCarthy was put through one on one with Camp goalkeeper David Murphy. It was a close race but McCarthy hit the deck in what looked like a fair attempt by Murphy to get the ball referee Mike Dempsey awarded a penalty to Lisselton. This was duly converted by Stephen McCarthy.

Camp did not lie down after this huge set-back and Lisselton's defensive frailties were exposed when Tommy Farrell blasted the ball to the net to set the scene for a dramatic conclusion but an equaliser failed to materialise and Lisselton took the win, which puts them level with Castleisland at the top of Premier A.
