MAC AT THE BACK Mike McCarthy shows soccer skills
DENNY PREMIER A Castleisland 1 Killarney Athletic 3 CASTLEISLAND'S unbeaten run in Premier A came to an end on Sunday when they went down 3-1 to Killarney Athletic who are now becoming very serious title contenders. This was a big game for both sides and consequently it was a tense fiercely contested game which dangled on a thread right up to the very end.
Athletic went ahead after 25 minutes with a well taken goal by their in form striker Rory O'Sullivan.
Castleisland upped the tempo of their game after this and they deservedly equalised five minutes from the break with a Pa McCarthy goal.
Castleisland dominated the opening 20 minutes of the second half but found it hard to orchestrate scoring opportunities.
Then a defensive mix up by the islanders proved costly with Michael Moloney firing home to put the South Kerry side ahead.
In the 87th minute Castleisland were unlucky not to equalise when Sean Og Ciarbhain hit the crossbar with the Athletic keeper beaten.
Then in a quick breakaway Athletic sealed the three league points with an Alex O'Sullivan goal which puts them into third place in the league table just four points behind Castleisland and Lisselton with a game in hand.
Now Athletic are looking to be a good outside bet to reach the Premier A final and they side are gelling very well together under managers Alan O'Connor and Shane Kelly.
