Munster Rugby Player of Year award for Tralee woman
SIOBHÁN Fleming has been named Munster Ladies Rugby Player of the Year at the Munster Rugby Awards ceremony, which took place after the Connacht versus Munster Magners League match last Friday.
Fleming, who captained the Tralee club this year, was duly recognised for her outstanding performances with her club this year, and for her meteoric rise in the game, which she only took up four years ago.
Having only taken up the game in 2007 this is a great achievement for any player but in Fleming's case it is well merited for the time and effort she puts into her training and the leadership she shows on and off the pitch.
In just four years Siobhán has not only made it to captain of the Tralee side but this year donned the red jersey of Munster and was picked for the final 25 squad to represent her country. Unfortunately due to personal commitments she had to withdraw from the latter but still continued to play at a provincial level.
A Waterville woman has won been named Club Player of the Year at here adopted Cill Dara Rugby Club in Co Kildare. Carmela Morey (nee O'Reilly) received the award at the Leinster Awards Ball in the Burlington Hotel on Saturday night.
Originally from Waterville, Carmela has lived and worked in Kildare for the last 12 years where she has been involved with Cill Dara Rugby Club for the last four years and was selected as the Philip Ladies Club Player of the Year. She was also selected in the Leinster Womens squad this year.
