THE county's Under-12 girls team were the toast of Kerry Athletics last weekend when they won the National Inter-counties Cross-country Relays in Roscommon. The winning team were Sophie Lynch ( Lios Tuathail), Shona O'brien ( Spa/ Muckross), Fiona Doyle (Star of the Laune) and Katelyn Moriarty (Kenmare).

THERE was plenty of Kerry interest in the opening round of the 2012 Irish Tarmac Championship, the Safety Direct Galway International Rally. Killarney's Billy Mccarty and co-driver John Falvey finished 38th overall and first in class 9 in their Nissan Micra.

IGB in € 3m surplus

GREAT news from the Irish Greyhound Board is that there was a cash surplus of € 3.15 million from the running of its tracks in 2011. As well, total attendance figures showed an increase of 22,632. Tralee Track is listed as a star performer, along with Shelbourne Park, Cork, Lifford, Mullingar and Thurles, and, of course, it all translates into a very healthy picture for greyhound racing heading into 2012. In conjunction with the IGB report, it was announced that prizemoney grants will be increased by 3.5% on an overall basis, which will be welcomed by owners and trainers.

ON Wednesday last February 1 the Lee Strand sponsored Kingdom Come 10-mile Road Race was launched at the An Riocht track in Castleisland.
