O'Carroll defends his title in style

THE National Juvenile combined events championships were held last Saturday in Nenagh. Eoin O'Carroll ( Tralee Harriers) defended his national title in the U-16 age group with wins and very impressive jumps in the long jump [5.87] and high jump [1.68m] and top three positions in the 60 metre hurdles and 800 metres. Others to compete well, but finish outside the medals were Louise O'Connor and Courtney Ryan ( Tralee Harriers).
The Leinster Indoor Open Championships were also held last weekend on Sunday again in Nenagh. Tralee Harriers athletes Sinead O'Connor, Padraig Whelan and Donal Crowley made the trip to compete.Sinead won gold in her speciality events the long jump and triple jump in the junior category, Padraig also in the juniors finished third in the 400 metres and Donal first in the masters long jump and high jump and also picking up silver in the 400m.
The Dungarven ten mile road race was held on Sunday last with several Kerry athletes making the trip to compete in the rarely run distance of ten miles. Stephen Griffin ( Tralee Harriers) ran a strong race to finish in 12th place overall and comfortably win the over 45 category in a time of 55.24 which gave him mile averages of 5.32 minutes. Ann Marie Costello (Gneeveguilla) also ran a solid race finishing in 1.06.27 giving her average mile splits of 6.39 minutes. Others to compete on the day included Hugh Mc Kenzie Vass [1.09],Mattie Angaland [1.11], Mary O'Connell [1.17], Nora Flynn [1.27] and Olivia Fitzgearld [ 1.33] all Gneeveguilla AC.
