Norah McEllistrim rightly honoured in England
HEARTIEST congratulations to Norah Mcellistrim on winning an important award for her services to greyhound racing in England. Norah is daughter of Ballymacelligott man, Paddy Mcellistrim, who had a very illustrious career as an English trainer and, in fact, she took over from her father as trainer all of 38 years ago, intending to do the job for just a few years. She currently has 60 greyhounds in training at the famous Burhill Kennels in Surrey and, of course, she had an English Derby finalist last year in Cloheena Cash.
She is chairperson of the English Greyhound Trainers' Association and her response to her latest award, presented by the Greyhound Writers' Association, was: "I'm embarrassed. I'm sure there are others more deserving."
Most definitely not, Norah!
