Killarney syndicate wins feature at Mallow

Wednesday August 04 2010

SHE'S Our Mark, owned by the B/M syndicate from Killarney, and given a most confident drive by Danny Grant for Carrick-on-Suir trainer Pat Flynn, was a most impressive winner, of the valuable Group 3 € 80,000 Give Thanks Stakes over 1ml 4f at the annual Richly endowed, August Bank Holiday race meeting, at Cork Racecourse Mallow on Sunday last, before a fine attendance.

Anchored at the back of the 11 strong field early on, she commenced her sweeping winning challenge from the rear, with over two to race, and swept to the front on the stand side with a furlong to race, to win going away by 1 1/2 lengths from Leo gali.

The outstanding six-year old, was purchased by Pat Flynn, as a two-year old, at Tattersalls Sales Fairyhouse, and sold on to the present syndicate, for the now bargain price of € 12,500.

The syndicate was named after the wives of the owners, who are named either Breda or Mary. The members include Daniel C Cronin, whose wife Breda Moynihan Cronin, was former Labour TD for South Kerry, James Lucey, treasurer of the group, Jim Kelly senior, Jimmy Kelly, Dermot Kelly, Pat O'Connor and Mike O'Shea, Donal Doherty and JJ Donoghue, all from Killarney and the surrounding area.

Donal Cronin spoke to The Kerryman, after his great success and explained: "She is a marvelously consistent filly, this was the eighth win of her magnificent career and her third Group 3 victory, in addition to two listed wins prior to today. This win brings her career earnings to almost € 500,000.

"We have been very lucky with Pat Flynn, and have had horses in training with him, for the last 23 years, and each one of them have won at least once, which is a marvelous record indeed."

The winning 6-year old, which is by Ishiguru out of Marks keep in faith, is destined for many more valuable stakes races in the future.
