KCYMS ladies win out in final minute

KCYMS 1 46 St Brendans 40: THIS was always going to be a close contest. The last time these two teams played was in the league where only two points separated the sides. Both teams came out strong and were playing tight defence.
Killorglin opened the scoring after 3 minutes with a great three-pointer from Kerry O'Sullivan but St Brendan's replied with a quick score from Aine Kelliher. St Brendan's started playing good offence and were pulling the fouls from Killorglin as they were going through. Killorglin got a fast break, when Kerry O'Sullivan was fouled and converted one from the line.
Another great threepointer from KCYMS' Kerry O'Sullivan in the 8th minute was quickly followed up by two quick baskets from St Brendan's. The Tralee side finding their form and putting pressure on the Killorglin defence with Cora Conway now on 3 fouls. This quarter ended 10-7 in favour of St Brendan's.
Killorglin came out the stronger side at the start of the second quarter and were fighting hard for everything. Michelle Hoare opening the score after one and a half minutes followed by a quick score from Katie Costello. Killorglin were on fire from outside and Evelyn Twiss scored another three-pointer. They now had their defence sorted and were keeping out St Brendan's.
It was basket for basket with St Brendan's playing full court, and Killorglin playing man-to-man inside the three. Killorglin kept picking away with the scores without reply so half time score was 24-16 in favour of KCYMS1.
Brendan's took to the court in the third quarter with a score by Claire O'Sullivan after 15 seconds. This was followed by another two scores before Killorglin registering their first, the score now was 26-25 to Killorglin.
Both sides were playing very well and it was basket for basket. St Brendan's played very strong defence and with two minutes left St Brendan's took the lead for the first time going 35-33 in front.
Killorglin out fast in this final quarter with a score from Nuala Quigg after 10 seconds to level the sides but this was followed quickly by a score from Katie Costello of St Brendan's. Claire O'Sullivan was putting a lot of pressure on the Killorglin side both offensively and defensively notching up another basket for St Brendan's.
With only 4.30 left, the sides were level at 39 points each. This final was everything that we thought it would be – tight and very competitive. Both sides kept fouls to a minimum, but Angela O'Shea scored one from the line to put one point between the sides again before Michelle Hoare got in for another basket.
Katie Costello was fouled for St Brendan's and scored one but Angela O'Shea sneaked in for a nice easy basket on the other side to leave four points between the sides.
St Brendan's had no answers to the Killorglin offence and Michelle Hoare got in for another score with only 30 seconds remaining to end this mighty campaign 46-40 in favour of Killorglin.
