Clean sweep for Team Garveys

Team Loftus Ballina 61 Team Garvey's 81: TEAM Garvey's made the long trip to Ballina on Saturday last to play the last of their league fixtures. The trip proved to be a successful one with Garvey's having a 20 point victory to see them finish unbeaten this season.
They played in much the same fashion that we have seen over the past number of league games, starting strong and maintaining a strong lead as the game progressed. Declan Wall opened with two points and just four minutes in he had, with the assistance of John Galvin, added three three-pointers to see Garvey's up 11 points.
Ballina hit eight points in the remaining six minutes of the first quarter, Garvey's John Galvin registered eight, Wall made a further six and O'Rahilly, Velykis and Broderick all added scores to see the visitors lead 30-8 at the end of the first.
Although Ballina stepped up in the second period of play, Team Garvey's maintained their level and threes from Wall, Fleming and O'Rahilly, with Viktoras Velykis netting 10 for the quarter, saw Garveys consolidate their lead.
Garvey's defending was strong and their defensive rebounding was excellent but a few turnovers gave Ballina scoring opportunities, which they took, but they trailed by five for the quarter and Garvey's lead had extended to 27 at the interval.
The third quarter was more equal, Moustapha and Popplewell continued to shine for Ballina and made several steals which they converted but the mighty Declan Wall continued to pop in the three pointers and O'Rahilly, Griffin and Galvin hit scores to build up the tally. Ballina took the quarter by two points which was not nearly enough if they intended to contest the game at this point.
Ballina made some good final quarter scores but Garvey's Declan Cahill, Declan Wall and Brian Clernon responded with the same to ensure that Team Garvey's had a comprehensive 20-point win on the buzzer.
