Caherciveen jockey Karen Kenny wins at Naas
Wednesday July 28 2010
CAHERCIVEEN lady apprentice jockey Karen Kenny was on the mark at Naas races on Wednesday last, where she was seen at her very best in gaining a shock 25/1 win on Cullofane which was a most impressive winner of the Derrinstown stud apprentice handicap, over 1 mile, for Navan trainer Pat Martin.
This was the talented rider's sixth success of her blossoming racing career. Well placed from the outset, Kenny raced smoothly into second with two to race, and from there she swept to the front with a furlong to race. In a stylish and powerful drive to the line, she won easily by 21/2 lengths, prompting the winning trainer to remark: "I'm delighted for Karen, she is a terrific worker, and richly deserved that success."
Kenny, who is great value for her claim, should gain many more victories in the hugely competitive sport of horseracing. A feature of the race was that two Kerry ladies finished first and second, with Dingle's Kate O'Brien, who recently scored her first success at this venue, finishing second on Fastnowfast.
