High Five for Tarbert's Patrick O'Connor
ONE man most definitely stole the show at Tralee Track last Saturday night, on the occasion of a hugely successful benefit meeting for Bee For Battens, the Saoirse Foundation. That was Tarbert trainer, Patrick O'Connor, who achieved a remarkable five-timer at accumulated odds of close to 100/1.
Wins for Tralee jockeys Enright and McDermott
TRALEE jockey Philip Enright visited the winners enclosure at Bellewstown races on Thursday last, where he sprang a shock 25/1 surprise with Drop Anchor in the 3ml maiden hurdle. Prominent from the outset, he progressed in second with two to jump, and shortly afterwards went to the front, staying on well under pressure to win by less than two lengths, and then survive a lengthy stewards inquiry.

It's still the taking part that should count more than winning
IT must be quite a while since we drew a blank in the U-8 Athletic events at the national finals. It's only a few years ago that we won three of the four events and got silver in the fourth. However, nothing in life is a certainty and winning medals at national finals is not a science.
25/1 shocker for Prince Fitz
IT is quite incredible the way that prince of trainers, Pa Fitzgerald, keeps on turning out winners on track and field, and the Tralee man pulled off a 25/1 shocker with Ballymac Under at the quarterfinal stage of the Ladbrokes Irish Derby at Shelbourne Park last Saturday night. Ballymac Under, owned by Londonbased Duagh man, Patsy Byrne, led off the first bend and he defied all challengers to score by three-quarters of a length in 29.96 (550yds).
O'Connor's Wall Street should be a banker
WATCH out for the Maurice O'Connor-trained Wall Street Boy in the first semi-final of the Keg Security Sweepstake (winner, € 2,000) at Tralee Track this Friday night. Running in the ownership of Seamus McEllistrim, of Castleisland, this October '08 son of Black Shaw and Saucy Sal won in 29.16 at the first time of asking at the Oakview venue on the last day of July and it was obvious that a very decent future beckoned for him.
