Cats' drive for five rekindles memories of the darkest day
THIS Sunday will arguably be the defining sporting moment of the year as the Kilkenny hurlers aim to do what Kerry failed to do in 1982 and win five consecutive All-Ireland titles ina-row. The run-up to this Sunday's Hurling final will bring back bittersweet memories for a lot of Kerry fans of that day when Seamus Darby denied the Kingdom what seemed to be their moment in history and the intriguing thing about Sunday's battle between the Cats and Tipperary is indeed whether history repeats itself or will Kilkenny heed the warnings of times past?
Under 21 hurlers set for home of hurling
THE Bord Gais All Ireland 'B' U-21 Hurling Final between Kerry and Meath will be played on Saturday, September 11 at 5pm in Semple Stadium, Thurles. The game is the curtain raiser to the All Ireland U21 Hurling Final between Tipperary and Galway at 7pm. This is a fantastic opportunity for this young Kerry hurling team to play in the 'Home of Hurling' as part of a fantastic double bill for all hurling fans.
St Brendans book place in Michael Reidy decider
MICHAEL REIDY MEMORIAL: U12 C/SHIP ST BRENDANS booked a place in the final overcoming Kenmare Kilgarvan 2-8 to 2-2 on Saturday evening last. The re scheduled quarter-final encounter between Causeway and Lixnaw throws in, in Causeway this coming Thursday evening with a 6.30pm start and the winner will advance to meet Crotta in the semi-final on Tuesday, September 6 and the Michael Reidy Memorial U-12 Championship final will go ahead on Saturday, September 11.
St Brendans to edge close run thing
YOU might want to get out the tea-leaves to judge how this game is going to go. Causeway on the back of their first North Kerry title in a long time and on the back of a hugely impressive display against Abbeydorney a few weeks back will take on a St Brendans side who were in last year's final and who, despite losing, really turned on the style in the second half against Ballyduff.
Experience to help Lixnaw prosper
THIS one could be put down as a clash between raw potential and gnarled experience. More often than not gnarled experience wins out, but there are times, like when the Kingdom's footballers came acropper against Down recently, that youth when given its head wins out.
Flaherty frees save Lixnaw
COUNTY SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP, ROUND 2: REPLAY Lixnaw 2-9 Ballyheigue 2-7 TWO late frees for Lixnaw sharpshooter James Flaherty was enough to see his side edge out Ballyheigue in a disappointing county senior hurling championship second round replay. This game also saw Kerry star Paul Galvin play his first hurling game since the 2007 county final (which Lixnaw won), and it was only after Galvin's introduction in the 37th minute that Lixnaw seemed to spring to life.
N KERRY HURLING
THE North Kerry Under 15 hurling championships will begin on this Saturday with two games down for decision. Causeway are at home to Abbeydorney at the changed time of 4pm, while Kilmoyley entertain Ballyheigue at 6pm. Rounds will also take place on September 11 and 18. The top two in each group will compete for the A Championship [Johnny Hussey Memorial Shield] while the remaining teams will compete for the B Championship (Edmund Flahive Memorial Shield). This is the last of the North Kerry Board competitions for 2010.
