Killorglin to take over the running of the Federation of Kerry Clubs from Ballyheigue
FEDERATION OF KERRY CLUBS
Wednesday January 27 2010
THE annual general meeting of the federation of Kerry clubs will take place on Thursday night, February 11 at Killarney golf club at 8pm where Killorglin Golf Club will take over the reins of Kerry golf from Ballyheigue who had a most successful year in 2009.
For many years the meeting has been a great social occasion where the current captains of all the Kerry clubs get a chance to meet each other before the season gets under way and it is also a great opportunity for the media to meet the club officials who they will be dealing with throughout the campaign.
Outgoing Captain Michael Dowling, Treasurer Michael O'Neill and Secretary John Leen ran an excellent campaign last year and at this point I would like to say a huge thank you to all three men and to the Ballyheigue club, who were most helpful in every way with the forwarding of results and fixtures and who were most hospitable whenever I visited the course.
At the time of going to print it was unsure who will represent Killorglin at the helm of the federation for the coming year, but their duties will include the hosting of a number of events including the semi-finals and finals of both the Dr Billy O'Sullivan and Nines of Kerry Shields, the Kerry Shield and of course, the Kerry Captains day, where all the current and past Captains of the Kerry clubs get together for golf and dinner.
Ballyheigue managed to win both the Kerry Shield and the Dr Billy O'Sullivan Shield last term where no doubt local knowledge played a huge part in their success and so Killorglin will be intent on emulating this feat. We wish the club by the Laune all the best for 2010 and in the coming week or so when the knowledge is to hand, I will introduce the men who will be charged with the running of Kerry golf for the coming season.
