Jonathon Goodall gets Ireland call-up

KERRY may soon have its second representative on an Irish International Pitch & Putt team with news this week that Tralee's Jonathon Goodall has been invited to play for Ireland in an International Challenge against Catalonia in late April in the Glenville club in Dublin.
Jonathon's selection comes courtesy of his sixth place ranking in the PPUI Gents standings, which came courtesy of a runner-up finish in last year's National Matchplay finals along with a fourth place finish in the National Strokeplay Championships last summer. Should Jonathon play, he will follow in the footsteps of Deerpark's Derry McCarthy who played on six different Irish teams captaining his country to victory in the European Championships in Holland in 2005.
The AGM of the Kerry County Board PPUI (Pitch & Putt Union of Ireland) took place in the Tralee clubhouse last Tuesday night. After three years as Chairman, Listowel's Kevin McCarron stepped down and was replaced by Deerpark's Ger O'Connor. Kevin remains on as vicechairman of the board as well as joint competition secretary which this year will be shared amongst four people namely Kevin, Julianne Broderick from Castleisland, Jason O'Regan from Tralee and Deerpark's Damien Fleming.
Some of the motions passed at last Tuesday's meeting include the County Board looking into the possibility of Kerry entering a team for the Munster Ladies Inter-County Championships in Castleisland, as well as each round of the Senior County Matchplay being played over 36 holes, while the Bob Casey has been changed to a team of five with two gross and two nett scores to count for each team. It is also hoped to bring back the Inter-Club Matchplay during the summer months.
