IT was a disappointing weekend for Deerpark's Robbie and Betty O'Brien in the Munster Mixed Foursomes in Hillview, Co Tipperary as they failed to get amongst the prizes with their score of 3 down, a total of nine shots behind the winning score of 6 up, posted by the team of Martha Harrington and Michael Ahern from the Crosshaven club in Cork.
Robbie and Betty were only one down after the first 18 holes, yet dropped another two shots tin the second round to finish on a score of 3 down.
Elsewhere, the Willie Maguire U-16 Challenge between Deerpark and Tralee saw the Killarney club win the competition for the third consecutive time in Tralee last Saturday morning on a score line of 5.5 to 3.5. Deerpark were represented by Kieran O'Keeffe, Kieran Murphy, Jason O'Brien, Jason Brosnan, Darren O'Doherty and St John Kelliher while the Tralee team was made up of Padraig and Alan Hobbert, Paul O'Shea, Conor Burke, Jason Cregan and Kevin Dolan.
2011 is set to be another bumper year for the sport in Kerry once more with not only the Irish Open taking place in Deerpark from April 15-17 but also the National U-16 Championships have been confirmed for the Killarney course next August.
Also, Tralee and Castleisland will host the Munster Gents and Ladies Strokeplay Championships respectively next July equalling the four major tournaments hosted in the county last year.
