Coote misses out on Seniors Internationals
THE Irish team to contest the Seniors Home Internationals at Craile in Scotland from September 14-16 has been announced and contains two Munster players.
Doneraile's Michael Quirke and Cork's Tom Cleary are in the side along with Bangor's Garth McGimpsey, Portmarnock's Adrian Morrow, Bill Donlon of Birr, the evergreen Maurice Kelly of Killeen and Seamus McParland of Greenore. Sadly, after an indifferent season on the Seniors circuit, there is no place on the team for Tralee's Michael Coote.
Ireland are chasing their third title in a row following wins at Tenby in 2008 (when Coote played on the team) and at Westport last year.
In fact, Ireland have won the event four times since it began in 2002 and on paper at least this year's side looks very strong indeed.
Cleary, Morrow and McGimpsey have all played golf for Ireland at the highest level before joining the Senior ranks and indeed McGimpsey has played on and captained the Great Briatain and Ireland Walker Cup team while Quirke is a former winner of the Spanish Amateur championship.
