Sem's super-sub O'Shea comes of age

Wednesday March 10 2010

IT was beyond his wildest dreams to be the man to kick the winning score last Sunday but 'supersub' Bryan O'Shea was a relieved man that St Brendans College managed to survive Macroom's late fight back.

"It's a dream come through especially seeing as I'm only the second youngest player on the team. We were a bit rusty in the first half and could have gone in a bit further ahead and I thought we were in big trouble when they scored they're first goal but thankfully we pulled through," he told The Kerryman.

The Dr Crokes player paid tribute to the efforts of his team-mate Brendan Falvey.

"He's the most enthusiastic player on the team and it just shows you what it meant to him by kicking those scores and he really brought us on in the second half," O'Shea said.

He admitted that he thought they would need another day The Sem hit the post twice and Macroom responded with their second goal at the other end but said it's a tribute to the work that had been put in by the school's management team that they were able to overcome that late setback.

"They've been absolutely brilliant throughout and they've prepared us for situations like this. We wouldn't have come through here today if it wasn't for their efforts during the year," he said of the management team.

Finally what will both this win as well as the one against Colaiste Na Sceilge do for the confidence of the team heading into the All-Ireland semi-final against St Pats of Navan?

" We can't be anything but confident having won both of those games. We will definitely learn from today and I think we showed that we have the character for the challenge."
