Second medal means more for captain Chris

STANDING with the cup in his hands before he made his way back to the dressing room, captain Chris O'Leary said it meant everything to him to have another Corn Ui Mhuiri medal to add the one of two years ago.

"It probably means a bit more seeing as these are the lads I've gone to school with all the way up along," O'Leary said.

Far from deflating the team, O'Leary said that his side were ready for any setbacks that may have arisen in Knocknagree last Sunday.

"The management have been preparing us for these things all the way up along and told us to keep going no matter what the score was and by sticking to what they said it worked out for us here today," the Kilcummin man said.

He praised his teammates, the likes of Brendan Falvey, Jeff O'Donoghue, Shaun Keane and Bryan O'Shea in particular.

"I was personally delighted for Brendan that he played to his potential today, Jeff will always come up with something for you. I think Shaun was very solid in what he did and showed a great pair of hands in retaining possession and Bryan made another big impact coming off the bench," he said.

What was O'Leary thinking when The Sem hit the post twice and Macroom went down the other end and scored their second goal?

"I got a bit of a scare alright! However we stuck in their and got our reward. We have to keep going though and not dwell on this for too long. There are things we can work on before the semifinal, granted the conditions were tough and the pitch was bouncy so I guess we'll have to work on starting a bit better in the meantime."
