Sean O'Sullivan calls time on Kerry career
Wednesday December 09 2009
THE Kerry senior football panel might have regained the services of David Moran last week, but it has just lost one of its most senior members with the news that Sean O'Sullivan ( pictured) will not be part of the squad in 2010.
O'Sullivan, who has won four All-Ireland senior medals, has opted to walk away from an inter-county career that stretches back 10 years.
Last year, despite fighting hard for a starting place in the team, the Cromane forward found it increasingly difficult to get any significant playing time, and the 29-year bank official has decided to leave the inter-county scene after picking up his fourth All-Ireland medal.
O'Sullivan made his senior debut in 1999 against Cork in the National League and saw his first Championship action three years later against Limerick.
That year, 2002, he started at right half forward in the All-Ireland Final defeat to Armagh but 2006 was arguably his finest season for Kerry, in which he picked up his second of four medals.
Kerry team selector Ger O'Keeffe said O'Sullivan will be a major loss.
"Seán was a top class footballer. What stood out about him was his vision, his speed, his strength, his agility and his ability to find players in good positions. He did it on the big day. He did it every time he put the jersey on. He's going to be a big loss for us next year."
