TRALEE IT travel to Clare today beginning what they hope will be a lengthy excursion in the Sigerson Cup as they face the challenge of Sligo IT in DooraBarefield at 2pm.

Manager Wayne Quillian believes the two games the side had in the Mcgrath Cup were of benefit to his charge's ahead of today's match.

"The CIT match in particular told us a lot about the level we need to be at. We did a lot of DVD work on the game highlighting where some of the mistakes were made and hopefully that will stand to us today," he told The Kerryman.

Sligo IT bring with them a number of inter-county players from across Connacht but the Tralee IT boss is hopeful a strong team ethic will get his side over the line in the Banner county today.

"We have no inter-county players in our ranks but we would be hopeful our work as a unit will count for something. Doora-barefield is a trip into the unknown in some respects. From what I'm told it's more of a Hurling pitch in terms of its design and that will present a challenge in itself," Quillian said. Tralee IT enter this winner-takes-all match without the services of Andrew Hegarty who picked up a groin injury in the Mcgrath Cup opener with Waterford.

Tomorrow ( Thursday) the Tralee IT Fresher's team travel to Ballykelly, Monastervin in Kildare to play the University of Ulster Jordanstown.

The team features a number of Kerry players including Sean Mccarthy from Legion, who is the team's captain, fellow Killarney player Michael Beckett from Dr Crokes, Eric O'connor, Ballylongford duo Darren Gogarty and Tommy Kennelly along with Shane O'connor from Valentia.

Michael Brosnan from Knocknagoshel is also part of the Fresher panel but is not expected to take part tomorrow due to injury.

The team is managed by Father Kevin O'sullivan.
