O'neill warmly received in South Kerry
ON Thursday night last Liam O'neill Uachtarán tofa CLG visited South Kerry and met with the local clubs in relation to depopulation and the effects it has on small rural clubs. Joe Mccrohan and Eimear Ní Mhurchú made presentations on the night.
Joe Mccrohan in an very detailed presentation outlined various solutions that would help clubs keep players at home playing football for their clubs.
Liam O'neill spoke about his own experience of coming from a small local community with one two teacher school. He understood the problems and there were no quick fix solutions. He said it was fantastic to see all the people attending this meeting and the suggestions made.
He added that all innovation comes from the grass roots and those above support them. He praised South Kerry for being an agent for change and he said that he could not promise miracles but would support and give as much help as he could to innovative ideas that would keep our players at home.
He said that a big problem like depopulation has to be tackled by all parts of the GAA organisation working together. He said we have to look at everything and see what can be done by the people on the ground and in the communitiesThey are best placed to take the lead as they know best how to help their own communities.
