Jim Kennedy Cup Final
THIS is the first Jim Kennedy Cup competition in association with Munster Ladies Gaelic Football and Munster Ladies President, Brian Enright, expressed the importance of honouring Jim Kennedy, he being the first national president of the association from 1974 to 1977 and this the first inter county college competition in the province.
This competition is a fitting tribute to the Munster man who played a major part in the founding of the association. From those humble beginnings 38 years ago the association has blossomed into the huge organisation it is today.
While Kerry did not contest the Jim Kennedy Cup Final between UL play Cork in the first senior Munster Competition of the year. Six Kerry players with UL Aisling Leonard, Lorraine Scanlon, Edel Murphy, Laura O'sullivan, Mary O'keefe and Caroline Reen all played there part are were unlucky as they tried to overcome the rebels in the final.
Cork dug deep to stay ahead and claimed their first title this year on a scoreline of 017 to 2-9. Last year we launched a Scholarship programme for Kerry senior inter-county players with UL and is already paying dividends. Currently we are in talks with UCD on another such programme.
