Goalkeepers

There would seem to be a right battle between Tomás Mac an tSaoir and Brian Kelly for the number one jersey. Both have impressed Kerry boss John Kennedy in challenge games, leaving the Asdee man with a major selection dilemma. More than likely Mac an tSaoir will win out, not only because he's the captain, but because of the experience he garnered playing in McGrath Cup for the Kingdom's seniors.

Defenders

Looking back to John Kennedy's time as Kerry minor boss one would assume that he'll stick with his former full-back Barry Shanahan for the number three jersey, but there would seem to be every likelyhood that the Austin Stacks man might be granted a bit more freedom to roam at number six – he's got the skills, the vision and the eye for a pass, it could be a masterstroke.

Legion duo Jonathan Lyne and Paudge O'Connor (who's a member of Jack O'Connor's panel this term) seem to be safe bets to line out in the two wing-back berths, but one of them could well end up in the full-back line, which looks likely to contain at least one Listowel Emmets man with Brian McGuire and Kieran O'Connor challenging strongly for either full or corner back berths.

Austin Stacks Denis McElligott is another player to impress in recent months (featuring off the bench during Kerry's McGrath Cup run) and if either Lyne or O'Connor makes the move back to the full-back line would more than likely be facilitated in the half-back line.

Kerry look to have a strong set of backs – aside from those already mentioned are Peter Crowley (who featured for UCC during their ultimately unsuccessful Sigerson campaign), Ballymac's Philip Galvin (2009 Munster Minor Footballer of the Year) and Currow's Ian Somers.

Midfielders

Given the recent retirement of Darragh Ó Sé how Kerry's midfield shapes up here will be of particular interest. Jack O'Connor will watch will keen interest the progress of Dr Crokes Johnny Buckley who looks a dead cert to lead the line for the Kingdom here. The star of the show for UCC is a fine fielder, but also a dynamic presence around the pitch. He'll be partnered by Dingle's Colm 'Benny' Moriarty, a good footballer and a fine fielder, he'll be the junior partner, but he'll nevertheless have a major role to play. Knocknagoshel's Edmund Walsh is still quite young, but again is a nice player.

Forwards

Up front is where this team is arguably at its best and to be honest there's probably little argument to be had about it.

When Kerry last won this competition they were able to reply upon the ball winning and point scoring of Tommy Walsh at full-forward, on this occasion the Kerry management team will more than likely call upon the AFL star's younger brother, Barry John, to fill the same function. Barry John doesn't have the same physical presence as his illustrious brother, but he can still win his own ball is arguably the more rounded footballer.

Walsh's Strand Road namesake, Barry John Keane, will look to hold down the number eleven jersey and given his sintillating turn for Kerry in the National Football League in Pairc Uí Rinn will be a star man for this team. He'll be joined on the halfforward line by James O'Donoghue, another to stake a claim to senior selection with his displays for the seniors this winter. Dr Crokes Daithí Casey (a star with UCC in the Sigerson Cup) should complete that line.

Another player John Kennedy will be familiar with from his stint as Kerry minor boss is Moyvane's Patrick Curtin – though injury ruled him out of the latter stages of the 2007 minor championship. Has been a key man for Feale Rangers in recent years and despite carrying a niggling injury should claim a corner-forward berth. The final position on the team will go to Paul Geaney– a star with the minors last year he's got a great deal of dynamism and a keen eye for goal.

That leaves out some very fine footballers who should make an influence off the bench – George O'Keeffe (a goalscorer in the McGrath Cup), Paul O'Donoghue and Sean Walsh (brother of Donnchadh) – expect to see some, if not all, of these in action at some stage.
