2012 could be a big year for . . .

While 2012 could see an influx of new talent into the Kerry team it will also be a pivotal year for some of the well established members of the squad. Paul Brennan looks at five players for whom 2012 could be a defining year

has been nothing of not varied.

Sometimes criticised for not being the hard-working forward the modern game has come to demand, Sheehan certainly answered those charges in 2011 with a tremendous year in the Kerry midfield.

Whatever about the corner, there's no hiding place in a Kerry midfield and Sheehan's All Star award merely underlined the massive contribution the St Marys man made to Kerry's resurgence last year.

The trick for Sheehan in 2012 is to repeat it. Seamus Scanlon and David Moran will be back to full fitness by the Championship, and with Anthony Maher equally determined to hold his midfield place also, competition will be hot for the 8 and 9 jerseys.

Sheehan's free taking ability will always work in his favour but 2012 is the year when the Cahersiveen man needs to decide that he is either going to a Kerry midfielder for the next five or six year or that he will be happy with a place anywhere on the team.

He has the skill, the physique and last year he proved he had the industry and the temperament to be a great midfielder. This is the year for him to consolidate on his 2011 season and make the other three fight it out to partner him in the engine room.
