Cats' drive for five rekindles memories of the darkest day
THIS Sunday will arguably be the defining sporting moment of the year as the Kilkenny hurlers aim to do what Kerry failed to do in 1982 and win five consecutive All-Ireland titles ina-row. The run-up to this Sunday's Hurling final will bring back bittersweet memories for a lot of Kerry fans of that day when Seamus Darby denied the Kingdom what seemed to be their moment in history and the intriguing thing about Sunday's battle between the Cats and Tipperary is indeed whether history repeats itself or will Kilkenny heed the warnings of times past?
Kilcummin side have pedigree
AFTER a tremendous run up the juvenile ranks with this particular team that saw them claim titles in both East Kerry as well as county level, Kilcummin make their debut appearance in a county minor final.
Jack lays down challenge to county's young players
NEWLY re-appointed Kerry senior team manager Jack O'Connor has laid down a challenge for the next generation of footballers in the county to step up and stake a claim for a place on the Kerry team and not to settle for being a part of the wider panel. O'Connor, who was reappointed for a three-year term on Monday, says that while he feels Kerry football will go through a period of transition over the next few years, he firmly believes there is still enough talent in the county – established and new – for Kerry to remain hugely competitive in the football championship.
High Five for Tarbert's Patrick O'Connor
ONE man most definitely stole the show at Tralee Track last Saturday night, on the occasion of a hugely successful benefit meeting for Bee For Battens, the Saoirse Foundation. That was Tarbert trainer, Patrick O'Connor, who achieved a remarkable five-timer at accumulated odds of close to 100/1.
O'Connor back for three-year term as Diarmuid Murphy comes on board as team selector
JACK O'Connor is back in charge of the Kerry senior football team for a third term, after the Dromid Pearses club man's re-appointment for a three-year term was ratified by club delegates on Monday.

Sheehan inspires champs to easy win over Kierans
IF there's a team out there that is serious about relieving South Kerry of their county championship title they are going to have to come up something much better than what St Kierans brought to Cahersiveen on Sunday. St Kierans came with a sound looking team – on paper – laden with senior, junior and minor intercounty players, and seemed intent on making life difficult for the champions, but ultimately their challenge reflected the nature of the three district boards they draw their players from – disjointed.
Under 21 hurlers set for home of hurling
THE Bord Gais All Ireland 'B' U-21 Hurling Final between Kerry and Meath will be played on Saturday, September 11 at 5pm in Semple Stadium, Thurles. The game is the curtain raiser to the All Ireland U21 Hurling Final between Tipperary and Galway at 7pm. This is a fantastic opportunity for this young Kerry hurling team to play in the 'Home of Hurling' as part of a fantastic double bill for all hurling fans.
Dynamos lose out to odd goal in nine
IF it was goals you were looking for then Cahermoneen was the place to be last Saturday with Tralee Dynamos and Limerick FC serving up a hugely entertaining nine goal thriller in a fiercely contested League of Ireland Under 20 game that hung on a knife edge to the very end.
Deerpark couple come up short in Munster Mixed Foursomes
IT was a disappointing weekend for Deerpark's Robbie and Betty O'Brien in the Munster Mixed Foursomes in Hillview, Co Tipperary as they failed to get amongst the prizes with their score of 3 down, a total of nine shots behind the winning score of 6 up, posted by the team of Martha Harrington and Michael Ahern from the Crosshaven club in Cork.
