Sporting and charity groups benefit from EBS funding
SEVEN community, sporting and charity groups in Kerry each received €500 this week under the Educational Building Society (EBS) Community Fund.
Jigsaw Listowel, the Cahersiveen Basketball Club, Currans Community Group, St Vincent de Paul Kenmare, the Killarney Southwest Kerry Wheelchair Association, Causeway Youth Club and the Comhaltas Group Naomh Chiaráin received €500 per group with the Jigsaw Listowel project now shortlisted to represent Kerry and be in with a chance of winning €10,000 in funding. That's if the group wins the overall EBS National Community Fund.
The EBS say the Jigsaw project was chosen in recognition of the important contribution it makes to the local community in terms of youth mental health.
The overall winner of the EBS Community Fund will be selected by the general public through an online vote at www.ebs.ie.
"Jigsaw Listowel works with communities to better support the mental health and well being needs of young people aged 12 to 25. Jigsaw aims to make sure young people have access to support where and when they need it. In Jigsaw there is a group of Jigsaw volunteer mentors who are based in the Listowel and Tralee areas.
The mentoring programme starts with the idea that helpful, positive relationships are crucial to good mental health and that good personal support can help offset the loneliness, isolation and a listening ear," the judges said.
