A SUMMER'S worth of veg growth has pupils at Asdee National School newly excited over the possibilities of horticulture as they harvested their first-ever market garden this week.
Planted in April by children of all classes prior to the summer break, much of the veg was ready for reaping on their return this week.
You name it, they've grown it in Asdee and while the parents of the school's catchment area are still the breadwinners, it's the kids who are supplementing the carbs with their nutritious harvest.
"It's great to see it and the children are really excited by it," Principal John Wren told The Kerryman. "Most children today wouldn't have much knowledge of everything that goes into growing veg so it was a fantastic learning experience for the pupils of our school as well," he added.
