No danger from mast insists company
NO health danger is posed to residents adjacent to the Listowel Garda Station by current works on the mast over the barracks, the company who manage the communications equipment for the State have said.
The Kerryman learned of concerns by residents after workers were spotted installing new equipment on the mast at Listowel Garda Station. However, the works do not represent any increase in the emissions from the mast, a spokesperson for Shared Access told The Kerryman.
"Work ongoing at present on the mast is for the installation of new equipment for Vodafone," Director of Property Management with Shared Access Róisín Murphy said. "O2 have operated from the mast from the late 90s and planning permission was secured for a Vodafone presence on it last November. Workers are now installing the Vodafone equipment following the granting of permission."
Ms Crowley explained that operations on all masts are monitored by Comreg and that any work exceeding emission 'limits' would be subject to strict controls, up to and including the loss of a licence. "That certainly remains the case for work on the Listowel Garda Station mast," she said.
