THE devastation caused by last weekend’s landslide on the Stack’s Mountains means a 66-year-old man now has to make a daily trek on foot through rough fields to see his family.

Denis Harris, Maugha, Lyreacrompane was the worst affected by the horrendous landslide that swept away 25 acres of bog at Maghanknockane and engulfed the bridge linking his home to the main road.

Mr Harris, who makes his livelihood from the bog, says he has never seen such devastation and now faces a 10 miles round trip — including over a mile on foot — if he is to see family or friends.

Denis’ daughter Paula said that seeing the devastation at her father’s bog is heartbreaking and she cries herself to sleep at night thinking of him being stranded.
