Kerry STI clinic forced to close
PATIENTS awaiting appointments and follow up treatment at Kerry General Hospital's Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) clinic will now have to travel to Cork to be seen, following the closure of the clinic last Thursday.
The HSE South has confirmed that the STI clinic at KGH has temporarily transferred to the South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital in Cork while a replacement for a vacant post is recruited.
The Kerryman understands that the clinic had been manned by one doctor just one day a week, but his recent departure has now left the position vacant.
According to the HSE, the process of recruiting and training a replacement has already commenced, with the development of a job description for the replacement post, and the health executive will advertise the post within the coming weeks.
While a HSE spokesperson could not anticipate a timeframe for filling the position, he stressed that management at KGH are keen to ensure that this post is filled and that service will resume locally at the earliest possible opportunity.
Anyone seeking an appointment in the STI clinic is asked to continue as normal to book their appointments via the Cork STI office at 021 – 4966844.
