Householders asked to conserve water

“We are currently taking water from the River Feale to service the Dromin supply but we are asking people to conserve the water they use,” Kerry County Council communications officer, Padraig Corkery told the Kerryman. “The amount of water being used is more than we’d hoped or anticipated so we’re asking people to conserve it where possible.”
Mr Corkery also confirmed that a boil notice is in effect for those people serviced by the Lyrecrompane supply and users are also being asked to conserve in this area.
“The boil notice is in effect for the Lyre area and most likely will be until the end of this week,” he said. He explained that an alternative supply of water has been set up which involves the council taking water from the Lyrecrompane river — a tributary of the Smearlagh River — and piping it into the Lyre treatment plant. For that reason people affected are being asked to both boil and conserve the water. “Anyone in the area from Lyre to the six cross and Listowel Bridge to Duagh are being asked to boil and conserve until further notice,” he said.
