Google streetview car parked illegally in Castleisland
INTERNET giant Google was brought before the courts in Kerry last week where it was fined after one of its Google Earth Streetview cars was found parked illegally in Castleisland.
The Google streetview car, which is fitted with a roofmounted camera, was found parked illegally on Main St, Castleisland, last September.
At Castleisland District Court on Thursday the company paid a €450 contribution to the court poor box to avoid a conviction under the road traffic acts.
The case of Kerry County Council v Google Ireland had first come before Castleisland court on Dec 22. Google Ireland Ltd, of Gordon House, Barrow St, Dublin, pleaded guilty on that date to parking in a restricted area beyond the allowed length of time on the afternoon of September 23, 2011.
The case was adjourned until last week for a contribution to the poor box, so as to avoid a conviction.
The court was told that €450 had now been paid.
Representing Ireland, solicitor Mann, on behalf Google Patrick of A&L Goodbody Solicitors of Dublin, reminded Judge James O'connor of his appeal that Google, "which so well serves the world and the community", could make the contribution to avoid a conviction.
