A JOINT fund-raising initiative between Garvey's SuperValu and its customers has succeeded in raising €5,000 towards the running of the Kerry Cancer Bus Service.
The service, set up by the Kerry Cancer Support Group, provides a fully equipped bus to transport cancer patients from Kerry to their appointments in Cork.
Over the past number of months, management at Garvey's SuperValu stores across Kerry have been inviting customers to use their Real rewards loyalty cards in store, with 10 cent of each transaction being donated to the service.
Having reached their intended target of €5,000, Garvey's SuperValu this week presented a cheque to the Kerry Cancer support Group towards the continued operation of the vital service.
Originally running just two days a week, the Kerry Cancer bus Service now operates five time a week, with pick ups in Listowel, Tralee, Castlemaine, Killorglin, Killarney and Glenflesk and visiting all hospitals in Cork.
