Former Texas Rose dies in Dublin
THERE were emotional scenes in Dublin on Monday as 26-year-old former Texas Rose Adrienne Hussey was cremated following a ceremony in Glasnevin.
Miss Hussey, who represented Texas at the 2010 Rose of Tralee Competition, passed away last Thursday morning at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin after becoming suddenly ill at her home the previous night.
It is suspected that the former social worker suffered a brain haemorrhage.
Adrienne Hussey was originally from Plano, Texas but had moved to Ireland last year to live with her boyfriend Eoin Traynor who had acted as her escort during the Rose of Tralee competition.
Rose of Tralee General manager Oliver Hurley said "it was with great sadness they had received the news of the untimely death of their 2010 Texas Rose."
"We extend our deepest sympathy to Adrienne's family, to her boyfriend Eoin and to her fellow Roses, many of whom kept a vigil at her bedside in Beaumont Hospital last night," he said.
