Forestry could become haven of fun for kids
A WEST Kerry businessman has lodged plans with Kerry County Council to create an agri-tourism project in Dingle, which he hopes will be up and running by this summer.
Businessman, Thomas Kavanagh and his wife Marion, have applied for planning permission to construct a new activity centre on their land at Ballymoreigh, a few miles from Dingle town.
It is proposed that the Dingle Woodlands Activity Centre would include a children's play area with climbing equipment, a picnic area, a walking track, archery, crazy golf and laser pigeon shooting facilities as well as a pedal carting track. The plans also provide for camping pods and a substantial car park, along with reception buildings a toilet.
Mr Kavanagh said he would like to see the new centre up and running by June of this year, but all will depend on the planning process. He said that the aim of the project is to provide an additional recreational facility for families to enjoy all year round.
"We believe that Dingle needs a facility like this that can cater for families who perhaps are on holidays in the area for a week and are looking for something to do with three small children, for example," he said. "If all goes according to plan, we would hope that a planning decision will be received by mid February and if that goes in our favour then we would be hopeful of having the facility up ad running by June."
Mr Kavanagh said the centre could create at least five jobs.
