Wednesday February 03 2010

KNOCKANURE and Coolard National Schools will represent the Listowel Credit Union chapter at the lender's annual county finals in Tralee after they emerged victorious at a tough test of general knowledge in the Listowel final on Friday.

Under 11s Knockanure pupils, Darran Doody, Jerry Clancy, Rachel Rolands and Maedbh McEvoy will now represent Listowel in their age category. In the under13's category, it will be Brian Ó Seanacháin, Cian Liston, Niamh O'Sullivan and Cian O'Mahony who will contest the county finals (or chapter final) for Listowel; after they took first place for Coolard National School on Friday night.

Held in the Presentation Convent school hall, the quiz was contested by 30 teams in all.

"We were absolutely delighted to be associated with and supportive of the participation and enthusiasm of the local school children of our community," Credit Union Chairman, Christy Kileen, said. "This annual quiz event continues to grow in popularity and this year's record entry created a tremendous buzz on the night," he added.

Compered by quiz master Robert Bunyan, the quiz also saw Scoil Réalta na Maidine perform brilliantly. Meanwhile, the Credit Union also congratulated Billy Kissing (under 10) and Keelan Mullins (under 7) on winning national awards in the 2009/ '10 Credit Union art competition — they collect their prizes in Dublin this weekend coming.
