Cartridge found in car

A CASTLEISLAND man found himself before the courts on firearms charges after a friend he had been shooting with accidentally left a shotgun cartridge in his vehicle.
Jason O'Reilly of Laccabawn , Castleisland was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm following the detection of a shotgun cartridge in his vehicle on February 20 last year.
Superintendent Michael Maher told Castleisand District Court that the car had come to the attention of the gardaí as it had no tax and was seized. During the course of the seizure gardaí found a cartridge from a shotgun in the vehicle.
The court was told that Mr O'Reilly had been shooting with a number of friends that day and a friend left the cartridge in the car.
Given the defendant's clean record, Judge James O'Connor ordered that he pay €400 to the court poor box before May 27 to avoid a conviction.
