At last Dingle people can finally reclaim their town's name

MEMBERS of Coiste Dingle/ Daingean Uí Chúis made the journey to Dublin on Tuesday to meet with Environment Minister Phil Hogan and oversee the final stages of the legislation that will give formal recognition to the bilingual names of the West Kerry town.
The Environment (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2011 came before the Seanad at 4.30pm on Tuesday, marking the penultimate stage of the legislation that will restore 'Dingle' as the town's official name, in tandem with the historical Irish name of Daingean Uí Chúis.
Coiste Chairman Fergus Ó Flaithbheartaigh was joined by coiste members Kate O'Connor, Danno O'Keeffe, John Sheehy, Tom Lynch and Mike Granville, accompanied by Karl O'Flaherty and Senator Joe O'Toole in meeting with the minister as the legislation passed through the Seanad.
