Aoife invites Clinton to 50th Rose
Wednesday March 18 2009
ROSE of Tralee Aoife Kelly is extending an invite to former US President Bill Clinton to attend the Rose of Tralee's 50th birthday celebrations later this year. The reigning Rose is on a week-long trip to the US to mark St Patrick's Day and before she jetted off across the Atlantic she said she was hoping to invite the former president to visit Tralee this August.
"I'm completely aware that Bill Clinton is extremely busy but knowing how much he enjoyed his trip to Kerry a few years ago, I'm hoping, should the opportunity arise, to invite him back to celebrate the Festival's 50th in August," said Aoife.
St Patrick's Day 2009 was a busy one for the Tipperary nurse who visited the Capitol Building during her visit and enjoyed a tour of the White House, where she hoped to meet President Obama, as well as attending the Northern Ireland Politicians' Breakfast in Washington DC and later a lunch on Capitol Hill hosted by Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi.
She also caught up with the Washington Rose of Tralee team and renewed acquaintances with her friend Maureen Hasson, the 2008 Washington DC Rose.
During her week long trip to the US Aoife will also lead out the New York Knicks Basketball team for an NBA match in Madison Square Garden.
