THE traditional Festival horse races may be a thing of the past but thanks to the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium there's now an alternative.
This year's Rose of Tralee Festival sees the introduction of a new event to the line up of festival entertainment with the greyhound stadium hosting a day long "Big T Party" on Sunday August 23.
The day and evening event will start with a family day which will kick off with lunch with the 2009 Roses, children's entertainment including a kids fashion show and a best dressed lady and gentleman competition.
Racing will begin from 3.30pm and will continue on into the evening. From 8pm on there'll be further entertainment for the adults with a Casino Night, Cocktail bar, DJ and amazing prizes.
The event is a new concept organised by the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium, in association with the Rose of Tralee Festival, to allow families to have a day out once the Rose of Tralee street parade has finished and to give them an opportunity to meet their favourite Rose.
This year's parade will be ending at the Greyhound Stadium and this will kick off the Big T Party celebrations.
"We wanted to become more involved in the Rose of Tralee and give something back to the town while also inviting people, who may have never been to the stadium before, to see what we are all about with this event," said Brendan Maunsell of Kingdom Greyhound Stadium.
For further information and to make a reservation for The Big T Party please call reservations on 1890 269 969. Day tickets are €10 with kids getting in for free. Day time celebrations begin at 2.30pm.
Evening tickets are €15 with evening events starting at 8pm and running till late.
