THE West Kerry Primary Care Team is hosting a 'heart health awareness evening' this Wednesday, December 2, in the Skellig Hotel from 6.30pm to 9pm.
This event is aimed in particular younger men and women to promote health and the prevention of cardiac disease.
The evening will consist of a presentation on heart health by consultant cardiologist Dr Yvonne Smith (the Bon Secours Hospital and Kerry General Hospital).
Health professionals such as public health nurses, dieticians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, health promotion officers and a social worker from the primary care team will be advising on: Diabetic screening, blood pressure checks, exercise advice/weight management, stress management/relaxation sessions, smoking cessation, alcohol awareness and hand hygiene.
Dieticians will have an information stand on general heart health eating tips with lots of informatioin about the fat and sugar content of everyday foods.
Rose Matthews, HSE Senior Community Physiotherapist and chairperson of the West Kerry Primary Care Implementation Team, said: "The aim of the evening is to give as much advice and help as possible to the people of West Kerry on keeping well and preventing cardiac disease. We hope that everyone interested will join us between 6.30pm and 9pm and come and find out more about improving their health. The event is free and all are welcome".
