Rotary Club reflects on a year of achievements

LORD Baker's Restaurant in Dingle was the venue last week for the local Rotary club's end of year celebrations.
Rotary president Pádraig Foley welcomed everyone and was delighted with the large attendance.
Immediate past president and host for the evening Mairead de Staic thanked her fellow Rotarians for a very successful year and she outlined the many achievements of the club in 2008 /2009
Pádraig Foley presented two special surprise awards on the night.
Dingle Hospital Matron Annette Cremin and Mairead de Staic were presented with Paul Harris Fellow Award which is the highest award that a Rotary club can bestow on an individual.
Matron Cremin received this award for her long community service in taking care of the elderly in Dingle.
Mairead de Staic received the award for the club's achievements during her time as president.
Among the local projects undertaken by the club over the past year were a Christmas Tree Appeal which raised €1,000 for the Local Old Folks Home; a St Valentine's Bash which raised €7,800 for the Dingle Hospital Patient Comfort Fund; defibrillator-training courses and sponsorship of the Rotary Young Chief Competition in Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne.
On an international level the club organized a fun dinner for Fr. Singh's Orphanage Appeal in Orissa, India, which raised €29,000.
