Radio jobs will not be filled

THREE full-time positions at the Radio na Gaeltachta station in Baile na nGall, which became vacant in recent weeks because of retirements, will not be filled because of cutbacks at the station.
The remaining staff at the station will now be expected to take on the extra workload.
The three members who have retired are Micheál Ó Sé, Seán Ó Cíobháin and Aogán Ó Muircheartaigh who, between them, have given more than 100 years service to the Irish language station.
Listeners to the station became concerned that the positions at the station might remain vacant and contacted local Fine Gael Cllr Séamus Cosaí Fitzgerald about their concerns.
"People are telling me that the station and the language will suffer as a result of these posts not being filled. I'm told that programming has already suffered as a result of the vacancies," Cllr Fitzgerald told The Kerryman on Monday.
He said he has written to Cathal Goan, the Director General of RTE and to the Ceannaire of Radio na Gealtachta, Edel Ní Churráin, to find out if these positions would be filled or not.
"I had a reply today from Edel Ní Churráin to say that the three posts will not be advertised or filled due to financial cutbacks. She said that this was a matter of regret and that the remaining staff would have to take up the challenge of filling the positions left vacant by the three who have retired," he added.
