Plans to relocate Dingle Mart put on hold

PLANS to relocate Dingle Mart from its current location in the town to a new site at Flemingstown are on hold, according to mart secretary Pádraig Firtéar.
"The way things are going right now it's difficult to say what the future will bring. We have sold almost half an acre of the mart grounds to Kerry County Council who plan to construct part of a relief road around Dingle through the mart grounds. We hope that deal will be completed soon," he told The Kerryman.
"We have planning for a new mart at Flemingstown and we have planning on our mart grounds here in Dingle for a supermarket and a number of retail units. But if a buyer doesn't come along then we will continue to trade from this site. It's a buyer's market at the moment and if someone comes up with the money for these grounds and builds the new mart for us we'll be happy to do business with them," he said.
"The mart is going strong at the moment but we would like the backing of the local farmers to keep going. There's a strong demand for sucks, cull cows, sheep and all other cattle at the moment and we're hoping that farmers from the locality would support the local mart rather than go out the road with cattle," Mr Firtéar said.
