THE Ireland U16 girls basketball team spent the weekend in Dingle training for the upcoming Eu ropean Championships which will be held in Macedonia next month.
But the weekend wasn't all about a tough training schedule because on Saturday morning they were treated to a trip down the harbour to see Fungie on Jimmy Flannery's ferry The Lady Avalon II.
The girls were in high spirits as the vessel motored to the harbour's mouth and the first sight of the famous dolphin brought squeals of delight from them.
Three of the squad are from Kerry, Laura Hoffman, Sorcha McNulty and local girl Deirdre Geaney.
"We will be up against Israel, Ukraine and Germany in the first round of the European Championships and we're looking forward to the challenge and the experience. We train every weekend during the summer. We're training in the sports hall at the Pobalscoil this weekend. The whole team is staying at our house and the craic is great!" Deirdre said.
